Anna Jaques Hospital Ransomware Attack Exposes Patient Data

Anna Jaques Hospital in Massachusetts experienced a significant ransomware attack on December 25, 2023, affecting 316,342 patients. The Money Message ransomware group claimed to have exfiltrated around 600GB of sensitive data, which includes personal, medical, and financial information. Following the attack, the hospital promptly took its systems offline and initiated an investigation, which was completed on November 5, 2024. Despite the breach, Anna Jaques reported no evidence of fraud linked to the incident and began notifying affected individuals in December 2024. In addition, the hospital has offered complimentary identity theft protection services to those impacted. The healthcare sector's vulnerability to ransomware attacks continues to be a concerning trend, with hospitals being prime targets for such cyber threats.
