Racine Police Fatally Shoot Armed Suspect
A man wanted for a violent domestic abuse assault was shot and killed by a Racine police officer late Sunday night near 17th and Franklin Streets, with the incident occurring around 11:12 p.m. Officers attempted to arrest the suspect, who fled in a vehicle, crashed nearby, and exited holding a handgun. As the man allegedly began to raise the firearm toward officers, one officer fired, fatally striking him. Officers rendered aid until EMS arrived, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene. Body cameras were in use during the incident, and the officer involved has been placed on administrative leave. The Wisconsin Department of Justice Division of Criminal Investigation is leading the ongoing investigation, with full cooperation from local law enforcement, and findings will be sent to the Racine County District Attorney’s office.
