FuelCell Energy Plans 100MW Fuel Cell Power for South Korea AI Data Center
FuelCell Energy has signed a non-binding memorandum of understanding with South Korean AI data center developer Inuverse to provide up to 100 megawatts of fuel cell power for the AI Daegu Data Center, with deployment planned to begin in phased increments starting in 2027. This partnership aims to support one of Korea's largest AI hyperscale data centers by delivering clean, reliable, and scalable baseload power, while also utilizing thermal energy to drive absorption chillers for efficient cooling, reducing emissions and operational costs. FuelCell Energy already operates Korea's largest single-site fuel cell park with 58 megawatts capacity, demonstrating its established presence and expertise in the region. The project aligns with South Korea's broader goals for a carbon-neutral, data-driven economy and Inuverse’s commitment to Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) objectives, with plans to transition fuel supply from natural gas to hydrogen as availability improves. Both companies highlight that this collaboration will help future-proof the data center infrastructure to handle growing AI workloads while advancing renewable energy adoption and energy resilience. Although the MOU is non-binding, it positions FuelCell Energy to expand its footprint in Asia’s emerging AI data center market and contribute to green digital infrastructure development.
