English Tourist Dies After Temple Bar Assault
An English tourist in his 40s who was seriously assaulted in Dublin’s Temple Bar on 21 August died in the UK on Saturday 25 October, Gardaí said. The man, identified in some reports as Anthony Herron, was initially treated at Beaumont Hospital in Dublin and was later transferred to King’s College Hospital in London; his family confirmed his death and have been running a fundraiser that raised about £23,200. A man in his 20s, named by the Irish Times as 22-year-old Darragh O’Brien, has appeared in court charged with assault causing harm and is accused of kicking the victim, including to the head; the court heard the incident followed a verbal altercation and the accused has not yet indicated a plea. An Garda Síochána said it will not provide further comment as the matter is before the courts and the case remains subject to ongoing legal proceedings and investigation.
