Gujarat Titans Sign Shanaka as Phillips' Replacement

Gujarat Titans have officially signed Sri Lankan all-rounder Dasun Shanaka for Rs 75 lakh as a replacement for New Zealand's Glenn Phillips, who was ruled out of IPL 2025 with a groin injury and has returned home without playing this season. Shanaka, who played for GT in 2023 and recently helped Dubai Capitals win the ILT20, brings notable international experience with 1,456 T20I runs and 33 wickets for Sri Lanka. His signing, following his unsold status at the last mega auction, is intended to strengthen the Titans' middle order and add experience as they currently sit second on the points table with four wins from six matches. Other teams, including Chennai Super Kings and SunRisers Hyderabad, have also announced replacement players due to injuries. Shanaka is expected to play a more prominent role under captain Shubman Gill. This move is part of several mid-season adjustments by IPL teams aiming to maintain momentum amid injuries.
