IDF Issues 54,000 Draft Orders to Ultra-Orthodox Men in July

The IDF plans to intensify enforcement against draft evaders and deserters across all sectors while considering the shortage of military prison cells and exploring options for expanding facilities. A new program is also planned for September to allow deserters to enlist on probation, potentially avoiding prison time if they comply for a year. Despite the draft push, the IDF emphasizes its commitment to accommodating the unique religious lifestyle of ultra-Orthodox recruits by developing tailored service tracks to facilitate their integration. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is negotiating with Haredi coalition parties to pass legislation legalizing yeshiva deferments, facing threats of coalition collapse and new elections if no agreement is reached.
