Meta Hires Daniel Gross for AI Superintelligence Lab Expansion

Meta has aggressively expanded its AI capabilities by hiring Daniel Gross, former CEO and co-founder of Safe Superintelligence Inc. (SSI), to join its newly formed Meta Superintelligence Labs (MSL). This division, co-led by former Scale AI CEO Alexandr Wang and ex-GitHub CEO Nat Friedman, focuses on developing artificial general intelligence (AGI) that surpasses human-level competency. CEO Mark Zuckerberg has personally recruited top AI talent, including researchers from OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google DeepMind, offering lucrative compensation packages to strengthen Meta's competitive edge against rivals like OpenAI and Google. The company recently invested $14.3 billion in Scale AI, further bolstering its AI infrastructure with multi-gigawatt data centers, leveraging its strong advertising revenue to finance these efforts. Despite some skepticism about the risks of such aggressive AGI pursuits, Meta continues to position itself as a dominant force in the AI race by restructuring its AI unit and attracting elite experts.
