Jonnie Irwin, presenter of 'A Place in the Sun', passed away on 2nd February 2023 from terminal cancer. He had kept his illness a secret for two years, revealing in November 2022 that the disease had spread to his brain, with a change in vision being the first symptom. He was filming in Italy when he noticed the symptom, and a crew member immediately drove him to the hospital. There were allegations that the programme's producers didn't renew his contract due to his illness. Before his death, Irwin sold his property portfolio to ensure his family's financial security, and he expressed a desire for his children to grow up happy and confident.
