North Carolina Man Dies After Drowning Colchuck Lake Washington
A 30-year-old man from North Carolina drowned after being underwater for about five minutes at Colchuck Lake in the Enchantments, Washington. Fellow hikers pulled him from the lake and administered CPR for over an hour before emergency crews arrived. The Chelan County Sheriff’s Office received satellite text-to-911 alerts around 7:15 p.m., which led to the deployment of a hoist-capable helicopter from the U.S. Army Air Ambulance Detachment in Yakima. The man was airlifted to the Leavenworth Fish Hatchery, where paramedics were waiting, but he was pronounced dead despite resuscitation attempts. Ground search and rescue teams assisted the victim's hiking group and others involved in the rescue. The cause of the drowning has not been specified, and no further identifying information has been released.
