Dean Skurka, CEO of the Canadian cryptocurrency company WonderFi, was kidnapped in downtown Toronto on Wednesday and released after a ransom of $1 million was paid electronically. The incident occurred near University Avenue and Richmond Street just before 6 p.m., and Skurka was later found unharmed in Centennial Park. He assured that neither client funds nor data were compromised during the ordeal, emphasizing the company's focus on employee safety. This incident highlights the increasing security risks associated with high-profile individuals in the cryptocurrency sector, particularly as Bitcoin prices soar. Jameson Lopp, a security expert, noted that such violent crimes against crypto holders have become more prevalent as interest in digital assets grows.
