Johnny Cash Statue Unveiled at U.S. Capitol
A statue of legendary musician Johnny Cash has been unveiled at the U.S. Capitol, making him the first professional musician to be honored in Statuary Hall. The bronze statue, created by sculptor Kevin Kresse, depicts Cash with a guitar slung over his back and a Bible in his hand, symbolizing his enduring faith and contributions to American culture. The statue replaces a Confederate general and is one of two new statues representing Arkansas, alongside civil rights leader Daisy Bates. Congressional leaders from both parties and over 100 members of the Cash family attended the ceremony. Speaker Mike Johnson and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries highlighted Cash's role in giving voice to marginalized communities and his influence across multiple music genres.
