Dolphins Sign Cobbo for 2026, Tupou Switches to Roosters

Selwyn Cobbo, a 23-year-old Queensland Origin and Test player, has signed a one-year deal to join the Dolphins starting in the 2026 NRL season, with plans to report for pre-season training in November 2025. The Dolphins secured Cobbo despite the Brisbane Broncos' reluctance to release him early due to the intense local rivalry and their belief in his value for the 2025 season. To facilitate salary cap space for Cobbo’s potential early arrival, the Dolphins immediately transferred winger Junior Tupou to the Sydney Roosters. Cobbo's move to the Dolphins, which offers a higher contract value compared to the Broncos' offer, is expected to strengthen the Dolphins' already talented backline featuring several Origin and international players. Dolphins CEO Terry Reader praised Cobbo's achievements and potential, emphasizing the club's ambition to build a top NRL team.
