Volkswagen Plans ID.Every1 Production in Portugal
Volkswagen has announced that its upcoming ID.1 electric car will be manufactured at the Palmela factory in Portugal, with a target entry-level price of around €20,000. This decision was made primarily due to cost considerations, as production in Germany would be too expensive; the company is also planning to manufacture the ID.2all in Spain for about €25,000. The Palmela plant, which already produces the T-Roc model, is viewed as one of the most cost-efficient facilities for VW. The ID.1 is set to compete in the growing electric vehicle market against models like the Citroën C3 Electric and Dacia Electric, both expected to launch at similar price points. VW aims to introduce nine new electric models by 2027, amidst ongoing restructuring efforts that include job cuts and capacity reductions at its German plants. Despite these challenges, the company remains committed to increasing its electric vehicle offerings in response to market demand.
