Family Identifies Jersey City Shooting Victim
The New Jersey Attorney General’s Office of Public Integrity and Accountability is investigating a police-involved shooting in Jersey City that occurred shortly after 1 a.m. when members of the Jersey City Police Department’s Street Crimes Unit encountered a man near Bergen and Ege/Virginia avenues. Officials, including Mayor Steven Fulop, said officers noticed a bulge in the man’s clothing consistent with a firearm; the man opened fire, an officer returned fire, and the man was struck. He was transported to Jersey City Medical Center and pronounced dead, and a firearm was recovered at the scene. Witnesses and video show a large police response and evidence markers near the home. Authorities have not officially released the names of the deceased or the officer involved, though family members told News 12 the victim was 27-year-old Teshan Rogers. The AG’s office is conducting the statutorily required review of deaths in police encounters, the investigation remains active, and officials have asked anyone with information to contact the state office.
