Cubs Promote Ballesteros, Turner Seals Win Over Miami
The Chicago Cubs have placed leadoff hitter and Gold Glove left fielder Ian Happ on the 10-day injured list with an oblique injury, leading to the promotion of 21-year-old catching prospect Moisés Ballesteros from Triple-A Iowa. Ballesteros, who has hit .368 with 18 RBIs and four home runs in 34 Triple-A games, is expected to primarily serve as designated hitter while Miguel Amaya and Carson Kelly handle catching duties. Seiya Suzuki will fill in at left field during Happ's absence. This move is part of the team's continued youth movement, which also includes the recent MLB debut of pitching prospect Cade Horton. Ballesteros made his major league debut in Tuesday's win over the Miami Marlins, where veteran Justin Turner hit a walk-off double to secure a 5-4 comeback victory. The Cubs hope Ballesteros' offensive production will help maintain their high-scoring lineup amid multiple injuries.
