Fell Street DMV Redevelopment Announced

Governor Gavin Newsom announced a plan to redevelop the outdated Department of Motor Vehicles office in San Francisco into a mixed-use complex featuring 372 affordable housing units and a new DMV office. The redevelopment, led by Related California and the Tenderloin Neighborhood Development Corporation, will transform the 2.5-acre site at 1377 Fell Street, which is located in a highly walkable area near key neighborhoods. The housing will cater to individuals earning between 30% to 80% of the area’s median income, with completion expected by August 2030, while the modernized DMV facility is slated to open in June 2029. This initiative is part of a broader state effort under Newsom's executive order aimed at utilizing underutilized state properties to address California’s housing crisis.
