OpenAI Launches ChatGPT Go Subscription in India with Enhanced Features

OpenAI has launched a new low-cost subscription tier called ChatGPT Go exclusively in India, priced at 399 Rupees (about $4.57 USD) per month. This tier offers users ten times higher message limits, image generations, and file uploads, along with double the memory length compared to the free plan, making it a practical option for students, freelancers, and professionals who find the free tier restrictive but do not require the full Plus or Pro plans. ChatGPT Go supports local payment methods including UPI, addressing affordability and accessibility concerns, and features pricing displayed in Indian Rupees to simplify subscriptions. The rollout of this India-specific plan reflects OpenAI's strategy to increase AI adoption in cost-sensitive markets by providing flexible and locally relevant options. Although ChatGPT Go lacks some premium perks like priority access during peak times and early feature releases, it enables users to access GPT-5 and expanded capabilities such as enhanced image generation and longer memory. OpenAI is also collaborating with the Indian government on AI education and local developer engagement, aiming to grow India’s already large user base further.
