Himangshu Sarma, a 26-year-old from Bajali, Assam, completed a 1,100 km cycling journey to the Baba Baidyanath Temple in Jharkhand to raise awareness about air pollution. Starting on July 21 and finishing on July 26, Sarma cycled through West Bengal and Bihar during the holy month of Shravan, which sees millions of devotees visiting the temple. He emphasized that traffic congestion is a primary contributor to air pollution and advocated for cycling as a healthier and more sustainable mode of transport. Sarma's initiative aims to encourage individuals to reduce their reliance on fossil fuel vehicles to combat rising pollution levels. His efforts have received commendation for highlighting a crucial environmental issue in India, where air quality standards remain alarmingly low. By promoting cycling, Sarma hopes to inspire a shift towards more eco-friendly transportation choices.
