Danville Councilman Attacked, Set on Fire at Office

Danville, Virginia City Councilman Lee Vogler was attacked at his workplace, Showcase Magazine, by Shotsie Michael Buck Hayes, who doused him with gasoline and set him on fire in front of witnesses during the morning hours. The attack was motivated by a personal matter unrelated to Vogler's political role. Vogler attempted to escape but was set alight outside the building before being airlifted to a regional burn center, where he was reported awake and communicating. Hayes fled the scene but was quickly apprehended by police based on witness accounts. Community leaders and colleagues condemned the violence and called for peaceful conflict resolution.
