UK Plans Ticket Resale Price Cap Legislation

The UK government is planning to introduce legislation to cap the resale price of tickets as a measure to combat ticket touts who resell them at inflated prices. This follows public discontent after tickets for events like Taylor Swift's Eras Tour and Oasis's reunion tour were resold for exorbitant amounts. The proposed cap might range from the ticket's original price to 30% above it, with a public consultation underway to finalize the details. Additionally, the government is examining dynamic pricing practices, which saw Oasis tickets soar from £150 to more than £350, raising transparency concerns. Culture Secretary Lisa Nandy emphasized the aim to protect consumers and ensure the live events sector benefits financially rather than touts. Ticketmaster has expressed support for the cap, reiterating its policy of capping resale prices at face value since 2018.
