Co-op Plans 75 New Stores in 2025

Co-op has announced plans to open 75 new convenience stores across the UK in 2025, with the first locations in Salford Quays and Newcastle Upon Tyne. This expansion is part of a broader strategy to launch 120 new stores over four years, including both company-operated and franchise locations. Alongside these new openings, Co-op will refurbish 80 existing stores in various cities and install up to 76,000 solar panels across 700 sites as part of its sustainability efforts. Managing Director Matt Hood emphasized the importance of providing convenient access to Co-op stores and enhancing community participation. The expansion comes amid the closure of 19 food stores in the Midlands and East Anglia due to financial sustainability challenges. Co-op's initiative reflects a growing focus on convenience and ethical retailing amidst evolving market dynamics.
