Starz Acquires 'Magic City: An American Fantasy' Docuseries for Summer Premiere

Starz has acquired 'Magic City: An American Fantasy,' a five-part docuseries that explores the cultural significance of the Atlanta strip club Magic City, known as the 'Black Studio 54.' Set to premiere this summer, the series is executive produced by high-profile figures including Drake and Jermaine Dupri, and details how the club has influenced hip-hop since its inception in 1985. The docuseries provides insider access to the lives of its founder, Michael 'Mr. Magic' Barney, and the women who contributed to its iconic status, as well as featuring celebrities such as 2 Chainz and Nelly. Kathryn Busby, President of Original Programming at Starz, emphasizes the series as a vital addition to their slate, highlighting its unique perspective on Black culture. Originally launched at SXSW 2023, the series aims to reveal the untold stories of Magic City's impact on music and nightlife.
