Burnley signs Marcus Edwards on loan from Sporting CP

Burnley Football Club has signed forward Marcus Edwards on loan from Sporting CP until the end of the season, with an obligation to buy if they secure promotion to the Premier League. The 26-year-old, who previously played under Burnley head coach Scott Parker at Tottenham, expressed enthusiasm about the move, citing Burnley's stature as a club and his desire for regular playing time. Despite being third in the Championship, Burnley has struggled with scoring, with five of their last seven matches ending in draws, prompting hopes that Edwards can enhance their offensive capabilities. Edwards has had a successful stint in Portugal, scoring 24 goals and providing 26 assists in 120 appearances for Sporting. His addition marks Burnley's fourth signing of the January transfer window, as they aim for a return to the Premier League. Burnley is set to face Oxford United in their next Championship match and will also compete against Southampton in the FA Cup fourth round soon.
