Three Former Chester Hospital Bosses Arrested Gross Negligence Manslaughter

Three senior leaders from the Countess of Chester Hospital, who worked there between 2015 and 2016, have been arrested on suspicion of gross negligence manslaughter in connection with the increased fatalities that occurred during the time Lucy Letby was committing her crimes. Following Letby's conviction in 2023 for murdering seven babies and attempting to murder seven others, Cheshire Police launched an investigation initially focused on corporate manslaughter by hospital leadership, which was later expanded in 2025 to include gross negligence manslaughter. The arrests, made on June 30, are part of this ongoing investigation, and all three individuals have been released on bail pending further inquiries. Detective Superintendent Paul Hughes emphasized that these developments do not affect Letby's convictions and that the investigations into both corporate and gross negligence manslaughter continue without set timescales. The probe also covers deaths and non-fatal collapses at both the Countess of Chester Hospital and Liverpool Women’s Hospital between 2012 and 2016. The arrested individuals have not been named due to legal restrictions.
