Ragasa Weakens; Foxconn Shenzhen Assembly Suspended
Typhoon Ragasa weakened into a tropical depression with sustained winds near 55 kph (34 mph) as it entered northeastern Vietnam but remained a major rain threat to northern provinces, where officials warned of heavy rains, flash floods, landslides and urban flooding. Prime Minister Phạm Minh Chính ordered ministries and local authorities to protect dams, hospitals and coastal assets, secure fishing vessels, prepare evacuations and ready search-and-rescue operations, while some flights were canceled. Ragasa already caused flooding, widespread power outages and deaths in parts of Guangdong, Taiwan and the Philippines, and disrupted flights and ports across East Asia, adding short-term friction to supply chains. The storm forced Foxconn to suspend assembly at a Shenzhen unit that makes iPhone components, threatening cross-border electronics production and logistics. Meanwhile, Tropical Storm Bualoi (Opong) is approaching the Philippines and could intensify to affect central or northeast Vietnam around Sept. 29; residents, travelers and businesses in impacted areas are being urged to stay informed and follow local authorities’ guidance.
