Connecticut Teen Arrested Following 30-Mile Police Chase in New Hampshire

Thomas C. Smart, an 18-year-old from Goshen, Connecticut, was arrested after leading New Hampshire State Police on a high-speed pursuit that reached speeds of up to 137 mph. The chase began on Route 16 in Dover when troopers attempted to pull him over for initially driving 95 mph in a 55 mph zone. Smart accelerated instead of stopping, resulting in a nearly 30-mile pursuit that lasted about 15 minutes. Police deployed a tire deflation device, which he struck, causing him to lose control and end up in a ditch. Smart has been charged with felony reckless conduct and misdemeanors for criminal mischief and disobeying a police officer; he remains in preventative detention. His passenger was not charged and both individuals were reported uninjured in the incident.
