UK Motorways Disrupted by Flash Floods

Heavy rainfall has caused significant travel disruptions across parts of the UK, with flash floods affecting major motorways. In East Sussex, up to 20mm of rain fell in just one hour, prompting flood warnings for villages along the Cuckmere River, with water levels expected to normalize by Wednesday evening. The A1(M) in County Durham is closed southbound due to flooding, with efforts underway to clear the water. In Somerset, the M5 motorway has been partially closed between J25 and J26 due to flooding, with traffic being diverted via alternative routes. Additionally, the M5 near Bristol has also been closed between J14 and J15, with traffic being held and delays expected. National Highways is actively managing these closures and diversions to mitigate the impact on commuters.
