Genesis Unveils GMR-001 Hypercar for WEC

Genesis, Hyundai's luxury brand, has unveiled its first-ever Le Mans prototype, the GMR-001, under its new Magma sub-brand, marking its entry into world-class endurance racing. The vehicle will compete in the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) in 2026 and the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship in 2027, leveraging a chassis provided by Oreca. The GMR-001 features design elements from Genesis's road cars and will utilize a spec hybrid system under LMDh regulations. Andre Lotterer and Pipo Derani have been announced as the first drivers, with the team named Genesis Magma Racing. The car's development will be supported by Hyundai Motorsport, and the team plans a preparatory LMP2 program in the 2025 European Le Mans Series. This ambitious venture represents Genesis's bid to compete alongside automotive giants like Porsche and Ferrari in the prestigious 24 Hours of Le Mans.
