Police Investigate New Allegation Against Alex Salmond

Police Scotland have opened an investigation into a historic sexual assault allegation against the late Alex Salmond, following a report made shortly after his death on October 12. The former First Minister, who passed away in North Macedonia, had previously faced multiple allegations of sexual misconduct, which he was acquitted of in 2020. Up to six women reportedly approached the Scottish National Party (SNP) over two years ago, lodging complaints about Salmond's behavior, which were not pursued further due to his status as a former member. The SNP stated their disciplinary processes apply only to current members, leaving the complaints uninvestigated. As the investigation unfolds, there are expectations that more women may come forward with similar allegations, some of which date back to the 1980s. Salmond was in the process of suing the Scottish Government over its handling of complaints against him at the time of his death.
