Renowned Hong Kong Food Critic Chua Lam Dies Aged 83

Chua Lam, a Singapore-born food critic, film producer, and cultural icon in Hong Kong, passed away peacefully at the age of 83. He was the last surviving member of Hong Kong’s famed 'Four Talents,' contributing significantly to the city’s cultural and culinary scenes through his work in film, television, and food criticism, including producing Jackie Chan’s notable movies. Known for his discerning palate, Chua organized culinary tours across Asia and the world, sharing his gastronomic experiences in newspaper columns and books. Despite suffering a hip fracture and the loss of his wife in 2023, he remained a respected figure and was remembered fondly by Jackie Chan, who regarded Chua as a mentor in filmmaking and life. Chua requested no funeral ceremony to avoid troubling family and friends, and his body was cremated according to his wishes. His legacy includes numerous books and television shows that celebrated food, travel, and life philosophy.
