China Expels Former Senior Officials in Major Anti-Corruption Purge
China's Communist Party has expelled two senior officials, Wang Jianjun and Xu Xianping, for serious violations of party discipline and state law, as part of President Xi Jinping's extensive anti-corruption campaign. Wang, former vice chairman of the China Securities Regulatory Commission, was found to have accepted large bribes and used his position to secure benefits in company listings and investment funding, leading to his dismissal from public office. Xu, former vice director of the National Development and Reform Commission, was found to have accepted free trips, lavish banquets, and facilitated job promotions and business contracts in exchange for bribes. Both officials have had their illicit gains confiscated, and their cases have been transferred to prosecutorial authorities for further legal action. These expulsions follow a broader crackdown that has removed thousands of officials across various sectors, including a recent major reshuffle within the military. The anti-graft efforts continue to underscore President Xi's commitment to rooting out corruption and reinforcing party discipline.
