Nigeria Leads 12 Teams Qualified for 2026 WAFCON in Morocco

Twelve nations have qualified for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), which will be hosted in Morocco and serve as a qualifier for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil. Nigeria, the defending champions and ten-time winners, secured their spot by defeating Benin and aim to claim an 11th title. Newcomers Malawi and Cape Verde will make their first appearances, highlighting the tournament's expansion from 12 to 16 teams and the growing competitiveness across African women's football. Other qualified teams include Morocco, Ghana, South Africa, Zambia, Kenya, Burkina Faso, Algeria, Senegal, and Tanzania. The tournament is expected to showcase both established powers and rising teams, reflecting the evolving landscape of African women's soccer. Additional spots may still be available through playoffs for some losing teams from the qualifying rounds.
