Thibodeau Advises Celtics; Knicks Hire Mike Brown

Former Knicks coach Tom Thibodeau visited a Celtics practice to break down film from New York’s postseason series and met with head coach Joe Mazzulla, Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown. Players and staff said Thibodeau’s personnel and team-level analysis helped Boston identify corrections, though some Knicks insiders later expressed upset that he shared detailed playoff breakdowns with a division rival. The Knicks have since hired Mike Brown to replace Thibodeau while still owing Thibodeau more than $30 million. Mazzulla denied reports that New York pursued him this offseason and said he intends to remain Boston’s head coach. Boston is scheduled to open the 2025–26 season at home against the Philadelphia 76ers amid significant roster turnover — including the departures of Kristaps Porziņģis, Jrue Holiday and Al Horford — and with Jayson Tatum sidelined while recovering from an Achilles injury.
