Colm McLoughlin, Dubai Duty Free Leader, Dies

Colm McLoughlin, the influential Irishman who led Dubai Duty Free for over 40 years, passed away at the age of 81 after a brief illness. Under his stewardship since its inception in 1983, the operation grew into a $2 billion enterprise, becoming the world’s largest single airport retailer and a staple at Dubai International Airport. McLoughlin’s career included significant projects beyond retail, such as the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Stadium and The Irish Village. His leadership earned him numerous accolades, including the Irish Presidential Distinguished Service Award in 2014 and the Frontier Lifetime Achievement Award in 2004. Known for his warmth and generosity, he established the Dubai Duty Free Foundation in 2004, supporting numerous charities. He is survived by his wife Breeda and their children, leaving a lasting legacy in both business and philanthropy.
