Joliet Detective Charged with Domestic Violence

Joliet Police Detective Peter Ranstead, 41, has been arrested on charges of domestic battery and interference with the reporting of domestic violence following an incident at his home on September 28. Officers responded to a disturbance report where it was alleged that Ranstead physically confronted his wife, causing her to strike her head, and prevented her from calling 911. Ranstead turned himself in to police on October 1 and has been placed on administrative leave. The Joliet Police Chief emphasized the department's commitment to integrity and accountability, stating that any failure to uphold these standards erodes public trust.
