Eminem Backs Bid for Detroit WNBA Team

Eminem has joined a high-profile bid to bring a WNBA expansion team back to Detroit, alongside other prominent figures, including Detroit Pistons owner Tom Gores and major local sports team owners. The group aims to revive the legacy of the Detroit Shock, which won three championships before relocating in 2010. Detroit is one of several cities competing for a WNBA franchise as the league plans to expand, with confirmed new teams in San Francisco, Toronto, and Portland. The Detroit team would play at Little Caesars Arena, shared with the Pistons and Red Wings. Eminem, a devoted Detroit sports fan, adds significant cultural and financial weight to the bid, which aims to enhance local economic and community activity. WNBA Commissioner Cathy Engelbert will oversee the selection process, with the league aiming to expand to 16 teams by 2028.
