UK Imposes Sanctions on Russian Chemical Weapons Troops

The United Kingdom has imposed sanctions on Russia's Radiological, Chemical and Biological Defense Troops and their commander, Igor Kirillov, in response to the alleged use of chemical weapons in Ukraine, particularly chloropicrin. The sanctions include asset freezes and travel bans, as the UK condemns Russia's violations of the Chemical Weapons Convention. British Foreign Secretary David Lammy emphasized that the UK will not tolerate such inhumane tactics and will actively confront Russia's malign activities. The measures also target two Russian defense laboratories linked to the development of chemical weapons. Defense Secretary John Healey stated that these actions are a necessary response to the horrific chemical attacks in Ukraine, reinforcing the UK’s commitment to upholding international law. The Russian embassy has yet to comment on these recent sanctions.
