Larry the Camel, a beloved local celebrity in northern Colorado, tragically died after being struck by lightning on July 4th while roaming his pasture at Chipeta Ranch. Larry, who was 15 years old, was well-known for his appearances at community events including Fourth of July parades, winter carnivals, weddings, and visits to local senior centers like Cliffview Assisted Living. Owned and raised by Bethany Aurin, who considered Larry her third child, he served as a goodwill ambassador for the Troublesome Horse Rescue and Rehabilitation and brought joy to many residents for over a decade. Larry was featured on Animal Planet's 'Dr. Jeff: Rocky Mountain Vet' and earned a devoted following with his friendly, charismatic nature. The entire community, including the rescue center and local residents, mourns his sudden loss, and tributes continue to honor his memory and the happiness he brought to the region.
