Cambridge Police Fatally Shoot Armed Man, State Investigation Underway

A 30-year-old man from Cambridge, Maryland, was fatally shot by police officers on September 4 after reports indicated he was chasing a woman with a knife in the Deep Harbor development. Upon arrival, officers attempted to de-escalate the situation and ordered the man to drop the knife, but he refused and advanced toward them despite warnings. After Tasers proved ineffective and the man charged at an officer, the officer discharged his firearm, striking the man multiple times. The man received immediate medical aid and was transported to two hospitals but later died from his injuries. The Maryland Attorney General’s Independent Investigations Division is leading the investigation, with assistance from the Maryland State Police, and further information including body camera footage will be released within 20 business days. Police have not yet released the names of those involved in the incident.
