Bicyclist Killed by Police Cruiser in Norwalk

A bicyclist named Manuel Bonilla-Gomez was fatally struck by an unmarked Norwalk police vehicle driven by Detective Andrew Roncinske at the intersection of Connecticut Avenue and Fairfield Avenue on Monday evening. The incident occurred just after 6 p.m. as the detective was responding to a call for service. Bonilla-Gomez reportedly entered the intersection against a red light and was struck by the police vehicle, which had the right of way. He was transported to Norwalk Hospital where he was pronounced dead. Detective Roncinske has been placed on administrative leave pending an investigation by the Connecticut State Police. Norwalk Police Chief James Walsh expressed condolences to Bonilla-Gomez's family and urged witnesses to contact the police with any information.
