Ukraine Arrests Suspect in Former Speaker Parubiy Killing with Suspected Russian Links
Ukrainian authorities have arrested a 52-year-old suspect in the assassination of former parliamentary speaker Andriy Parubiy, who was shot eight times in broad daylight while disguised as a delivery courier in Lviv. The killing, described as a meticulously planned contract murder, involved extensive surveillance of Parubiy's movements and multiple escape routes, with the suspect fleeing to the Khmelnytskyi region before being captured 36 hours later. Ukrainian officials, including President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, police chief Ivan Vyhivskyi, and Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko, have emphasized that the crime was not random and strongly suspect Russian involvement or orchestration by Russian special services. Parubiy was a prominent figure in Ukraine's pro-European movement and a vocal opponent of Kremlin influence, making the assassination a significant and symbolic act during the ongoing conflict. Ukrainian authorities are conducting urgent investigations to clarify all circumstances, and they pledge to hold all responsible parties accountable under the law. Russia has not commented on the allegations of its involvement.
