Brockton man indicted for murder, assault in pedestrian's death

Vasco Semedo, 46, has been indicted on charges including murder after allegedly striking 50-year-old Stuart Smith with his SUV and then hitting him with a brick over 20 times in Brockton, Massachusetts, on April 6, 2024. The indictment follows an incident where Semedo reportedly hit Smith with his vehicle twice before exiting and assaulting him further with a brick while he lay on the ground. Witnesses detained Semedo until police arrived at the scene, where Smith was found unresponsive and later pronounced dead at Massachusetts General Hospital.
