Joshua David Wainscott, a 40-year-old library media teacher at Maplewood Elementary School in Greeley, Colorado, has been arrested and charged with second-degree assault and child abuse after allegedly putting a 6-year-old student in a headlock. The incident, which was captured on school video, occurred on August 30, prompting an immediate investigation by Greeley police after school officials reported it. The student reported difficulty breathing while trying to escape Wainscott's grip. Following the allegations, Wainscott was placed on administrative leave on September 3 and arrested on September 12. He has been with the school district since 2008 and was booked into Weld County Jail, with a hearing for formal charges scheduled for Tuesday. The Greeley-Evans School District emphasized the importance of student safety and expressed regret over the incident.
