Robin Uthappa Wins Stay in Cheque Case

The Mumbai Sessions Court has granted interim relief to cricketer Robin Uthappa by pausing proceedings in a cheque bounce case involving Centaurus Lifestyle Brands Pvt Ltd, where he was a non-active director. The case arose from a bounced cheque issued to Senior Marketing Pvt Ltd, which has led to complaints and legal actions since 2019. Uthappa's lawyer argued that he was not involved in the company's daily operations and only learned about the ongoing case in April 2024 when contacted by police. The judge noted that Uthappa was not responsible for the company's affairs and thus stayed the proceedings until January 2025. This decision comes amid claims that Uthappa was misled by Centaurus, resulting in a significant financial loss. The stay allows Uthappa to pursue his challenge against the magistrate's prior summons which he contends were improperly issued.
