Finalists Announced for Tourism Event Awards

Chichester Cathedral has been nominated as a finalist for The Tourism Event of the Year for its Peace Doves installation, which attracted 50,000 visitors, while Bradford Cathedral won the Leisure Venue of the Year award at the Telegraph & Argus Retail, Leisure and Hospitality Awards 2024. Meanwhile, four sites in Lincolnshire, including Waltham Windmill and Hussey Tower, have been labeled 'at risk' and received funding for repairs from Historic England. St Botolph’s church in Hardham, known for its ancient wall paintings, has also been added to the heritage at risk register due to the deterioration of its murals. In Yorkshire, twelve churches received nearly £80,000 from the Yorkshire Historic Churches Trust for preservation efforts, including St Stephen’s in Bradford, which supports local homelessness initiatives. Additionally, Ripon Cathedral is hosting a Christmas Food and Gift Fair to raise funds for its mission and heritage conservation. These initiatives highlight the ongoing efforts to preserve historical sites and support community welfare across the region.
