Four Arrested After Fatal Hit-and-Run Kills Durham Woman
A 22-year-old woman died after being struck by a car in a hit-and-run incident at Neville's Cross on the A167 in Durham during the early hours of Sunday morning. The woman suffered fatal head and chest injuries and was taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle, where she died shortly after arrival. A 37-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and driving while unfit, while two men aged 38 and a 59-year-old woman were also arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender; all remain in police custody. The vehicle involved, a silver VW Golf GTi Clubsport, fled the scene but has since been recovered by police. Durham Constabulary has urged witnesses to come forward and provide any dashcam, doorbell, or CCTV footage to aid the ongoing investigation. The incident prompted road closures and a significant emergency response, and authorities continue to support the victim's family during this difficult time.
