Recovered Jewels from Dresden Heist Displayed

Nearly five years after a notorious heist, the precious jewels stolen from Dresden's Gruenes Gewoelbe museum are back on display, despite being in their unrestored condition due to ongoing legal proceedings. In November 2019, thieves made off with over 4,300 diamonds valued at approximately 113 million euros, but most pieces have since been recovered, with only a few, including the Dresden White Diamond epaulette, still missing. The jewels, displayed in their original locations, show visible damage, primarily from the theft and improper handling by the perpetrators. Five members of the Remmo clan were sentenced in May 2023 for their roles in the crime, which has prompted significant security reassessments at the museum. Saxony's Premier, Michael Kretschmer, emphasized that the heist has served as a bitter lesson regarding museum security. Visitors can view the recovered jewels starting this week, with access requiring timed tickets.
