A63 Castle Street Project Delay Announced

The A63 Castle Street improvement project in Hull, valued at £355 million, has been delayed by a year, with completion now expected in spring 2026 instead of the previously targeted spring 2025. National Highways attributed the delay to 'extremely challenging ground conditions' encountered near the Humber, which were unforeseen at the project's outset. The project, which began in March 2020, involves lowering the A63 to create an underpass and is designed to alleviate congestion on this busy route. Hull City Council leader Mike Ross expressed disappointment over the delay and has called for reassurances and support for affected businesses. National Highways has acknowledged the disruption caused and thanked the public for their patience while they work through the challenges. As construction progresses, overnight closures in the area are expected to continue into January.
