Catawba College, a private liberal arts institution in Salisbury, North Carolina, has received a $200 million anonymous donation, marking the third significant gift in three years. This latest contribution will bolster the college's endowment, which now exceeds $580 million, as well as support environmental education and sustainability initiatives. Two-thirds of the donation will be used for unrestricted funding, while one-third is earmarked for programs aligned with the college's commitment to sustainability, which was highlighted by achieving carbon neutrality in 2023. President David P. Nelson emphasized that this gift enables the college to enhance student opportunities and infrastructure, including a new student center and the renovation of residence halls. Catawba plans to continue its focus on environmental stewardship and student experience, building on the momentum created by past donations. The college's per-student endowment now approaches $500,000, positioning it among the highest in the Southeast.
