Students at Pacific Northwest College of Art at Willamette University recently showcased their creativity in the annual 'Cardboard Couture' event, where they designed wearable outfits solely from cardboard, without any adhesives or additional materials. This project, led by Professor David Eckard, serves as a rite of passage for incoming freshmen, pushing them to think outside conventional design methods and embrace limitations as a source of innovation. Participants had just three weeks to create their pieces, which they unveiled on the runway, demonstrating their problem-solving skills and artistic vision. The event has become a beloved tradition over its 15-year history, encouraging students to explore their artistic potential with a focus on sustainability and resourcefulness.
